CNET Reviews iPhone App
The iPhone app I’ve been working on for almost two months has finally gone live back in November. It features CNET Reviews and packs a bag of goodies like easy category access, filtering and sorting results, latest pricing comparisons, search, barcode scanning or buying guides. So go check it out, install it, and love it!
Here is an intro blog post from a CNET executive editor: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-20021529-233.html
You can download the app here: http://reviews.cnet.com/iphoneappdownload or directly from iTunes: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/cnet-product-reviews/id399322513
5 years later…
After 5 years, I think it’s time to move away from a bloated, image-heavy, table-based design of this site to a lighter and leaner one. It scared me a bit when I saw how old my previous site was. When people say time goes by a lot faster after college, they’re not kidding! And I’m not even that old.
There is no coincidence in timing of this redesign. When Geocities shut down two days ago and I got a good laugh out of xkcd‘s appropriate one-day Geocities throwback, I realized it was time.
Only God knows what’s going to happen in 5 years from now since the world is supposed to end in 2012. I do hope, however, to see more [positive] changes around here…
P.S. IE6 users: don’t even bother – I didn’t.
iPhoneDevCentral.com
I’ve finally got off my ass and did something useful with my domain,iphonedevcentral.com. I wrote a few tutorials and am planning on doing a lot more in the coming months. If you’re a beginner iPhone developer, go check it out athttp://www.iphonedevcentral.com
CNET, CBS, WWDC 2008, etc.
I can’t believe I only posted three updates since the last time I went to WWDC in 2006. That’s pretty sad.
Since I started over at CNET Networks I have moved on from news.com toreviews.cnet.com. It really doesn’t make much difference, I just don’t work on News tasks anymore.
Also, on May 15 ’08, it was announced that CBS would acquire CNET for $1.8 billion. In other words, I now work for Katie Couric and David Letterman
. Folks here at CNET are pretty excited about the deal. I guess it’s a good thing — only time will tell.
I will be attending WWDC again this year. It’s going to be my second time so I’m quite excited. Steve is supposed to announce the long-awaited 3G iPhone and tell us more about iPhone SDK. The conference is sold out for the first time in its history. That means more elbows hitting me on the way to the keynote hall on the morning of June 9th.
Folks from VersionTracker took over product management of my CNET iPhone appso we’ll be attending a few sessions together. Speaking of iphone.cnet.com, my CiUIis getting some positive feedback from the open-source community. There is still a lot that can be done to the library to make it more robust, yet lighter, so I really hope more people will join in the development. I will sure be promoting the hell out of it at WWDC.
CiUI – CNET iPhone UI
I released a little library for iPhone Web development called CiUI. The library does pretty much the same thing iUI does but in a different fashion. I’m using it oniphone.cnet.com, so go check it out, if you’re interested.
Also, a kitchen sink of all CiUI’s features can seen in this demo.
You can read more about it here:
CNET & San Francisco
I have finally moved to the Bay Area, which I absolutely love, to work as a software engineer for CNET Networks (their news.com division). It’s been really exciting so far but I still have no furniture at my new place
Good times, good times…
MTRDS research paper
September issue of the Journal of Educational Technology and Society contains a paper discussing our research on temporal relations of online discussions. You can find the paper on IFETS’ site or by going to the RESEARCH section of my website.
TommyCarr.net
A very talented and successful Pittsburgh artist, singer and musician, Tom Carraher, has asked me to put a site together for him. It should be up in a month or so go check it out, when you get a chance. His music is really, really cool. The site can be found at tommycarr.net.
FreeMotorMart.com goes live
I just finished working on a car sale website Free Motor Mart. Please, go check it out at freemotormart.com
Two new websites on queue
I’ve started working on two new projects recently. One of them will be a website for the Duquense University Tamburitzans Alumni group and details about the second one will be coming soon. They both need to be done pretty fast so no time to waste…
